Korça, Once a City of Five Customs Points with an Industrial and Commercial Character—Today Even the Maternity Hospital Is Being Turned into a Hotel…

By Albens Tabaku:

Developments driven by “mediocre, one-sided policies” always lead to failure, especially when based on “personal” initiatives without serious studies involving institutes, experts, or academic departments.

From the very beginning, when it was still presented as something new, the idea of developing Korçë mainly and almost exclusively as a tourist city did not seem normal to me. Even before communism, during communism, and for at least 10 years after its fall, Korça had an industrial, commercial, and agricultural character, supported by fertile fields and hardworking villages that created a relatively stable economic chain for the region.

The Beer Factory dates back to 1929, along with manufacturing industries for agricultural products, an alcohol factory, power plants, and transport links to Greece through automobile companies—even air transport. I recall the German company Adria Aero Lloyd, which operated propeller flights Korça–Tirana, Korça–Shkodër, Korça–Vlorë, and return routes as early as 1925. Later, the Italian company Ala Littoria introduced routes such as Korça–Tirana–Rome and Korça–Thessaloniki.

The bazaar was once a center of craftsmanship and essential local trades. The city also had numerous schools, including the French Lyceum (a national institution), two major high schools opened by Mirash Ivanaj, a boys’ vocational school teaching accounting, finance, trade, and merchandising, and a girls’ school focused on crafts, tailoring, and culinary arts.

During communism, Korça was perhaps the most developed district in the Republic, even rivaling Tirana in industrial diversity (although Tirana had larger numbers and heavy industry like the tractor plant). Heavy industry included mechanical and metal plants, foundries, a glass factory, brick and tile factories, a thermal power plant, a bearing factory, and the Instrument Factory—considered number one in the country.

Light industry included food processing plants (jam, oil, chocolate cream, pickles, wine, and cognac), meat processing, woodworking, and more. There was also the highly regarded knitwear combine, which functioned partly until the 2000s before being demolished for apartment buildings. The carpet factory, leather and footwear factory, and many others suffered the same fate. The only survivor is the former garment production enterprise, which still operates successfully today.

Geological enterprises with dozens of mines were destroyed, as was the silicate industry. Agriculture, historically strong, was also neglected.

Therefore, directing Korça’s development almost entirely toward tourism—without alternatives and without utilizing its historical potential—was a mistake. The city is a key border hub with around five customs points, a strategic transport node that should have focused on logistics, storage, and distribution. It also has exceptional agricultural potential in the Korça and Devoll plains, along with a highly skilled workforce that has now largely disappeared.

There were discussions about building an electric cable factory and an automotive company a few years ago, but these plans were abandoned.

Traditional elements like lakror (pie), raki, sausages, and the Beer Festival are now overused and fragmented, unable to provide sustainable long-term development. Domestic tourism has already “consumed” Korça, and population decline across Albania reduces its impact on the regional economy. Unlike coastal cities such as Durrës and Vlorë, which benefit from at least three stable months of tourism, Korça does not even have that advantage.

The situation becomes absurd when even a maternity hospital is turned into a hotel—especially during the peak of a pandemic, when more hospital beds were needed. At the very least, healthcare infrastructure should have been expanded, but it remains unchanged from 50 years ago.

Focusing the economy solely on tourism—whether in Korça or across Albania—makes sustainable and progressive development impossible. Tourism is influenced by many factors and does not quickly recover the high investments it requires. Not to mention the oversaturation of hotels and guesthouses across Korça.

In conclusion, this was a short-term, mediocre, and misguided vision.

Who Is Thoma Turtulli, the Man Who Donated the Library, Cinema, Lyceum, and Hospital to Korça…

Once, everyone knew him. Today, only a few people in Korçë and beyond remember him. He was one of the greatest philanthropists the Albanian nation has ever produced—a model that should still be followed today.

By Vangjel Simaku

He was the benefactor who gifted Korça—considered one of the most cultured cities in Albania—with a library, a cinema, a lyceum, a hospital, and an orphanage. A philanthropist who saved dozens of people from certain death, yet could not save himself from it. He helped prepare dowries for many poor families in Korça and earned the love and admiration of thousands.

However, the brutal communist regime treated the Turtulli family harshly. When the cemeteries of Korça were relocated from the Church of St. Mary, the monumental grave of this distinguished family was barbarically destroyed, and the remains of the great philanthropist disappeared without a trace. The deep hostility of Enver Hoxha toward this family resulted in one of the most renowned philanthropists in the Balkans and beyond, Thoma Turtulli, having no known grave today.

Thoma Turtulli originated from Vithkuq, once a large and developed town with many neighborhoods, churches, and schools, rivaling even Voskopoja in prosperity. Like Voskopoja, however, Vithkuq was burned and looted three times by the same attackers.

The Turtulli family later moved to Korça and became one of the most prominent commercial families of the time. Thoma Turtulli and his company conducted trade with Durrës, Shkodër, Tirana, as well as with Thessaloniki, Bitola, and Istanbul.

Soon, he devoted himself to major philanthropic efforts, aiming to turn Korça into a model European city. On December 25, 1927, the “Majestic” cinema opened its doors in Korça—a small “La Scala” in the heart of the city. This beautiful cinema was built by the Albanian joint-stock company “Cinemato,” founded by Thoma Turtulli and his associates.

He donated a library to the education-loving city of Korçë, recognizing the strong thirst for knowledge among its people. In the city and surrounding areas, there were already many books preserved from the old libraries of Voskopoja, Vithkuq, and Korça itself, as well as books brought by the Vatra society from the United States.

As a result, the beautiful Korça library, inaugurated in 1930, held around 30,000 books at that time. The great philanthropist Thoma Turtulli also donated the lyceum—this important center of education known both within and beyond Albania. The city hospital, meanwhile, was inaugurated in 1934.

After its completion, Thoma Turtulli’s wife, Athina Turtulli, donated 40,000 gold francs to the state for the construction of an industrial school. King Zog I awarded her the Order of Skanderbeg in recognition of her contribution.

It is said that Thoma Turtulli personally supervised the construction of the hospital and fell ill there with bronchopneumonia. Despite the extraordinary efforts of King Zog, who brought the best doctors from Thessaloniki, he could not be saved. The works of this great benefactor still shine in Korça today, reflecting the European spirit that Thoma Turtulli and other notable philanthropists instilled in the city.

30 apartments in the “Arlis” complex were destroyed, including the home of an Albanian model: “Thank you for the messages.”

Among the 30 apartments that were destroyed by the massive fire that engulfed the “Arlis” complex two days ago is also the home of well-known Albanian model Gloria Meshi. The news was confirmed by the model herself, who reacted on her Instagram page, stating that the fire that swept through the complex also burned down her home.

She added that fortunately she and her family are in good health.

“Hello, thank you for every message you have sent me regarding the fire. My family and I are well, thank God. Due to the fire in my building and my home, it will be impossible for me to post in the coming days about my active collaborations, except for what I had already prepared two days ago,” the model wrote in her statement.

Further on, Gloria shared details from the terrifying moment that residents experienced as their homes burned before their eyes.

She added that firefighters did everything possible to rescue people who were trapped inside their apartments, emphasizing that they were working in very poor conditions.

“I have seen news and comments about firefighters and police officers, but no one knows how much they risked their lives and in what difficult working conditions they were. They were all extremely kind and compassionate to everyone in that situation. A huge thank you to all of them. Seven of them were suffocated and taken to the emergency room, at least those I saw. Many of their helmets, which can withstand up to 1200 degrees, were melted. The fire was very strong and there was extremely heavy smoke. Before you comment, say thank you to those who risk their lives for such a low salary,” the model added in her second reaction.

This morning, new details emerged regarding the massive fire that destroyed part of the “Arlis” complex. According to footage secured from surveillance cameras in the area, the incident is suspected to have been caused by several minors.

Mateo: I will have the biggest wedding with Brikena outside

Mateo Borri and Brikena Selmani crowned their love with a wedding inside Big Brother. Of course, it was within the context of the game, but it remains a very beautiful memory for both contestants. On Big Brother Radio, Mateo Borri revealed that he will have a bigger wedding outside this format.

During the interview, he also shared details about his life outside, what he plans to do, and his future goals.

The second finalist emphasized that he is looking forward to going on vacation and meeting the model from Kosovo, away from the cameras.

The two rekindled their relationship in this reality show, as they had known each other before entering the house.

It remains to be seen how this relationship will continue in the future.

Preparations for Easter / Orthodox Believers’ Traditions in Korça, from Souvenirs to Lamb Meat…

Korçë has been filled this weekend with hundreds of tourists and visitors who have chosen the city to celebrate Orthodox Easter as well as to relax and enjoy their time off. Easter is the holiday that symbolizes the resurrection of Christ, and in Korça it is celebrated on a large scale. Local families have preserved and respected their long-standing traditions and customs.

A well-known tradition is the purchase of souvenirs made of ceramics and clay, as well as the preparation of lamb meat, since the lamb is considered a symbol of goodness, purity, and peace.

The Easter lunch represents togetherness, bringing everyone around the same table to be close to their loved ones.

KF Skënderbeu Korçë is considered one of the most successful teams in the history of Albanian football, especially in terms of its performances in European competitions. The club has reached the group stage of the UEFA Europa League twice and has progressed through four qualifying rounds—an achievement unmatched by any other Albanian team.

Another historic milestone was securing 47th place in the global ranking published by International Federation of Football History & Statistics.

Moreover, Skënderbeu was ranked ahead of several well-known European clubs such as Lazio, Borussia Dortmund, Ludogorets Razgrad, Corinthians, Ajax, Schalke 04, Villarreal CF, FC Porto, and Atalanta BC, among others.

“Inside David Beckham’s 51st: Victoria Beckham shows love at luxury The Dorchester dinner”

Victoria Beckham planted a kiss on husband David’s cheek as he kicked off his 51st birthday celebrations with a lavish meal at The Dorchester in London on Friday. The former footballer enjoyed an evening out complete with a cake and candles on the night before his big day.

He was joined by his mother Sandra, father Ted and his partner Hilary, as well as sisters Lynne and Jojo for the pre-birthday dinner. Victoria’s parents Jackie and Anthony Adams also attended.

Sharing a series of photos to Instagram, Victoria wrote: ‘The first of many celebrations. Happy birthday eve!’

While none of the Beckham children appeared to be present for this occasion, Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz will no doubt fail to celebrate with David at all this weekend.

David and Victoria haven’t spoken to Brooklyn since last May, when he and his wife snubbed the former footballer’s 50th birthday celebrations.

Victoria addressed her ‘challenging’ past year amid her feud with son Brooklyn in a rare TV interview last week.

When asked on the Today show by hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones about the tumultuous recent time for the family Victoria didn’t specifically reference her son, 27, but said she will ‘always protect’ her kids.

Jenna directly asked her in the interview: ‘You have had a pretty public challenging year – we have talked about it on this show. How do you get through the tough times?’

She replied: ‘You know, myself and David, we’re so close and we have incredible people around us.

‘We’re close to my parents and David’s parents. We support each other through everything that we do.

‘We love our children so much and have always really focused on protecting our children. But we laugh a lot. David is really, super funny.’

Brooklyn cut ties with his family in a scathing social media statement in January, declaring he has no plans to reconcile with his famous parents and accusing them of ‘controlling him for most of his life’.

David and Victoria have not been seen with their son since.

Victoria also said in the new interview that her and her husband rely on each other to navigate tough times.

She said: ‘We support each other through everything that we do. We’ve grown together. And that’s where I feel so blessed.

‘We really have grown together. We support each other. We’ve both got big dreams. We’re both very, very ambitious and we support each other. I want him to be the best version of himself and that’s what he wants for me.’

Doctors blame energy drink habit after patient rushed into emergency surgery for severe organ infection

A tired mom was rushed into emergency surgery after doctors discovered a potentially dangerous infection in her kidney that she says stemmed from her weekly energy drink habit.  Alison Dunn, 25, had been drinking one 12oz can of an energy drink four times a week for just seven months when she began feeling an excruciating pain in her right side.

She said she had started buying energy drinks to combat her early morning starts after getting a new job in a warehouse, as well as tackle the ‘exhaustion’ of being a busy mom-of-two.

But in March 2025, Dunn showed up for her shift and began feeling a dull ache in her lower right side.

Eventually, the pain became excruciating, describing it as ‘worse than childbirth,’ and she began vomiting.

As Dunn’s symptoms worsened, she was rushed to the hospital where tests revealed she had a 6.5mm kidney stone – which is considered large – blocking her ureter, the tube through which urine passes.

She also had an enlarged, infected kidney, which can be serious if not treated. It can lead to kidney disease, irreversible kidney damage, kidney failure requiring transplant, and sepsis – a deadly reaction to an infection.

Dunn said that doctors suggested her sudden kidney issues may have been due to her regular consumption of energy drinks and advised her to stop drinking the beverages immediately.

The Florida native said: ‘I work in the warehouse industry and I work really early hours. I was waking up at 5am, so on the way to work I would stop at the gas station and get [an energy drink].

‘This was four days a week. I’d only drink it those days. It was only for the job. I’m also a mom so I’m always tired. Even on my days off I was exhausted most of the time. It became a habit.

I wouldn’t say I was addicted – I didn’t crave it on my days off, but I was definitely reliant on it when I knew I had a long day.’

The day she went to the hospital, Dunn said it was ‘a regular day for me.’

‘I had my [drink] that morning, got to work and I started to have a dull ache in my lower right side,’ she added.

‘Then it continued to get worse and I started to feel really nauseous. I left work and then threw up all over my car and all over myself. After I took a shower, the pain became excruciating.’

Dunn’s partner drove her to the hospital where a CT scan revealed the kidney stone, enlarged kidney and infection.

Kidney stones affect approximately 600,000 Americans a year. The stones are pebble-like clumps of minerals that form in the urinary system.

Kidneys filter waste from the blood, producing urine to carry it out, but when certain minerals from food and drink – most commonly calcium and oxalate – become too concentrated in the urine, they can begin to crystallize.

Normally, these tiny crystals are flushed out without notice. But when urine is concentrated – often due to dehydration – they can stick together and grow. Over time, they form hard, jagged stones.

Trouble begins when a stone moves into the ureter. The tube is narrow, and as the stone scrapes along its lining or blocks it entirely, pressure builds behind it in the kidney.

That is what triggers the hallmark symptom: intense, wave-like pain that radiates from the lower back to the groin, often leaving sufferers pacing, sweating and unable to find relief.

Some notice blood in their urine or feel a constant urge to urinate despite passing very little. Others experience nausea so severe that they begin vomiting.

There is a possible connection between energy drinks and kidney stones, Dr Veeraish Chauhan, a kidney specialist, wrote for Very Well Health. The main concern with these types of drinks is that they can be high in sugar and high-sugar intake is linked to kidney stones.

A 12-ounce can, which is considered one serving, of a popular brand contains about 39 grams of sugar. The daily recommendation for sugar intake is about 30 grams.

He also said the caffeine and sodium content of the drinks can contribute to kidney stones as well.

Additionally, if people are drinking energy drinks, they may be less likely to drink water and dehydration is also linked to an increased risk in kidney stones.

Dunn was rushed into surgery where a laser broke down her kidney stone into smaller pieces. This allows the body to naturally pass the stone in urine. She was discharged from the hospital four days later.

Now, she is urging others to be ‘mindful’ of their own energy drink consumption and has vowed never to touch energy drinks again.

Dunn said: ‘I was super shocked. I drink water on a regular basis. I’d never had any kidney issues prior to this.

‘The first thing my urologist asked me was “Do [you] drink energy drinks?” They were confident that was the cause. He said I definitely need to stop. I’m very lucky the infection in my kidney didn’t spread to my blood.

‘Once you get kidney stones, it’s very easy for you to get them again so if I were to begin drinking energy drinks again, I would definitely encounter the same issues.

‘I’ll never drink energy drinks again. It was the worst pain of my life; it was worse than childbirth. I don’t think a few hours of energy is worth the toll it takes on your body.’

Woman claims she got sick after biting into undercooked McDonald’s burger, slams the chain

A woman has launched a scathing rant after she took a closer look at her McDonald’s burger and discovered it was raw.  Carla Dolby demanded an explanation from the fast food giant after she was reduced to a diet of plain toast and Hydralyte following the ordeal.

‘Maccas, please explain, what is this?’ she asked in a TikTok video, while holding the remainders of the undercooked burger.

‘I know it’s my fault for not looking when I was eating it, but I was so hungry.

‘I was eating away, looked down and noticed it wasn’t cooked. I think you should just trust that your food is cooked if you’re purchasing from a fast food restaurant.

‘My insides are literally still ruined, I’ve had to call in sick, I’ve had to cancel my plans on the weekend. I’m feeling so lethargic, but lesson learned.’

Ms Dolby lodged a complaint with McDonald’s and was told the fast food giant would launch an investigation, which could take up to 10 business days.

‘We will engage the restaurant management team to commence an investigation,’ the fast food giant said in the response.

‘Our restaurant teams will complete an in-depth review, which may include reviewing CCTV, as well as records from other customers during the time of this visit.

‘Please know that this may take up to 10 working days, and you will be contacted by the store upon completion of this process.’

Aussies were quick to share their own fast food horror stories.

‘I got a sundae from Maccas last year, got about halfway and realised my spoon was tapping something metal. Turns out it was the top of the handle for the sundae sauces,’ one person wrote.

‘I had a milk carton lid in my Maccas coffee,’ another said.

But others stuck up for employees at the chain, suggesting they were new.

Respect the workers, their jobs are stressful enough with training and learning new stuff is hard,’ they said.

One person who claimed to be a McDonald’s manager also chimed in.

‘We take food safety complaints very seriously. More than likely someone will be fired. I hope it gets resolved,’ they said.

‘Genuinely, as a manager at Macca’s, this makes me so annoyed. It’s not hard to check if the grills are working and it’s also not hard to check if the meat isn’t cooked.

I’m assuming it might’ve been a newly trained employee or someone who wasn’t paying attention.’

Daily Mail contacted McDonald’s for comment and a spokesperson said: ‘We contacted the customer to apologise and processed a full refund and store credit.’

‘Restaurant management have retrained the employees involved on the correct procedures to ensure we’re serving food to the highest standards of taste and quality,’ the spokesperson said.

Barry Keoghan Finally Speaks Out on Sabrina Carpenter Cheating rumors

Barry Keoghan has finally broken his silence on rumors that he cheated on Sabrina Carpenter. “I feel in a safe space to say this … but I have been avoiding stuff,” the Irish actor admitted during Tuesday’s “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast with Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco while talking about his split from the pop star.

“I have been like, you know, I came off Instagram … and social profiles. I’ve stopped going to events. I’ve stopped, you know, just socializing.”

Keoghan said his absence was prompted by a “not true” narrative that was out there, which he had “never really even spoken on” until now.

I never confirmed or said anything about it … I just disappeared,” the “Saltburn” star explained.

When Dicky (born David Burd) asked if infidelity was the “narrative” the actor was speaking about, he confirmed that those were indeed the rumors he was referencing.

“I don’t want to ever bring anyone else into it, but like, you know, unfortunately, having a relationship in the public eye, it’s — we all know this — you know, from our own stories,” Keoghan said.

“It gets put out there and it’s like … it’s amplified.”

“It’s a hard one because I never want to speak on behalf of other people and also never want to mention other people or involve them.”

The “Batman” actor said it’s not his place or his ex’s “to come forward and speak” on his behalf because he feels like it’s “unfair to them.”

“They’re also in a relationship. It’s also both of us being out there for like … I’m very aware of that,” he said.

Carpenter, 26, and Keoghan, 33, were romantically linked in December 2023 after they were spotted on a dinner date in Los Angeles.

The pair seemingly confirmed their romance one month later when they shared a “little kiss” while visiting an interactive museum in LA.

In December 2024, Page Six confirmed that the “Please Please Please” singer and the “Banshees of Inisherin” actor called it quits.

Rumors then surfaced that Keoghan cheated on Carpenter with an influencer named Breckie Hill, which prompted the Oscar nominee to deactivate his Instagram account due to all the backlash.

Hill shot down allegations that she ever hooked up with the “Crime 101” actor, claiming they had never even met in real life and she had only just seen him on TV.

Experts Reveal the Right Way to Shower — Most People Get It Wrong

What direction do you face when you shower? It’s likely not a question that you’ve spent much time pondering. But it turns out the way you answer says a lot about you. The internet seems to be struggling to agree on whether we should be facing the spray of the water or facing our backs towards it.

In a recent TikTok, a Canadian creator went viral for responding to a claim that neurodivergent people apparently shower backwards.

User Canadian Ginger argues that it’s actually individuals with neurodivergence who are “showering the right way.”

Her comment section revealed there’s confusion on what we’re meant to be doing.

Wait, what? Everyone showers with the water facing your back… right? Right?” one user questioned.

Another shared: “I asked my husband, and he said he showers sideways, facing the shower curtain, and I don’t know what to do with this information.”

“I always thought that facing the shower head was a fake movie thing,” a third pondered.

However, a middle ground was able to be found.

Are we not rotating? Tell me we’re rotating,” a comment said.

“I just be in there rotating like a rotisserie chicken,” another admitted.

According to Doctor Vincent, founder of Renovatio, the decision is generally influenced by sensation and how well we can cope with it.

A lot of it comes down to sensory preference and nervous system regulation. The face is one of the most sensitive parts of the body, packed with nerve endings. Direct water hitting your face can feel overstimulating, especially if the pressure is high, the temperature is hot and you’re already stressed or fatigued,” Vincent told news.com.au.

Facing away can feel more calming and controlled. It reduces sensory input and gives a sense of relaxation, which is why many people instinctively turn their back when they want to unwind.”

As for the direction that is “correct” — well, he says there isn’t one.

“Your body doesn’t biologically require you to face one way or the other. What matters more is how you shower: water temperature, duration and how your skin responds,” he said.

However, he warns there could be a mistake in favoring one side too much.

“Facing directly into hot water for prolonged periods can dry out your skin (especially your face), worsen conditions like eczema, rosacea or sensitivity, and irritate your eyes.

“On the flip side, always facing away might mean you’re not properly rinsing shampoo or cleanser from your face or chest, which can lead to irritation or breakouts. So it’s less about wrong and more about balance,” he explained

It’s a conclusion he shares with dermal therapist, Isabella Loneragan, who believes facing away from the shower serves as a “practical skincare habit” a lot of people don’t realize they’re doing.

“Avoiding constant water contact helps preserve natural oils, particularly for those with sensitive, dry or reactive skin,” Loneragan told news.com.au.

She also advises that we should shower “alternating your position throughout your routine.”

Face the water when you’re actively cleansing the face or rinsing product thoroughly from the front of the body. This helps remove residue more effectively and prevents build-up that can lead to irritation or congestion,” she said.

“Once you’ve finished cleansing, turn away from the stream to limit prolonged exposure on more delicate areas like the face and chest, which are often the first to show signs of dryness and sensitivity.”

She also recommends keeping the water warm, as opposed to scalding hot, even though the steaming temperature often feels like heaven.

“The skin on the face and décolletage is more delicate, so that prolonged exposure can compromise the barrier,” she explained.

Megan Thee Stallion set to leave Moulin Rouge! The Musical early after record-breaking run

Megan Thee Stallion has confirmed she will depart Moulin Rouge! The Musical earlier than originally planned, sharing the news directly with fans. “Hotties, my last performance as Zidler in @moulinrougebway will be May 1 ❤️‍🩹,” she wrote in an Instagram post on April 27. “It’s been such an honor to be part of thee Moulin Rouge family and I’ve met so many amazing people in this theater!

Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work!”

“I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful,” she continued. “And to all the Hotties that showed up or planned to attend, thank you for supporting me during this incredible journey! I LOVE YALL🥹 See you soon 💙.”

The three-time Grammy Award-winning rapper and actress made her Broadway debut as Harold Zidler, the impresario of the famed Parisian nightclub, beginning March 24. Her run at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City had initially been scheduled through May 17.

Her casting marked a milestone for the production, as she became the first female-identifying performer to take on the role of Zidler in any production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical worldwide.

The role was originated on Broadway in 2019 by Danny Burstein, who previously spoke to PEOPLE exclusively about Megan’s reception among the cast and audiences.

“All my friends who are still in the show, the people backstage, they all are crazy about her. They all love her so much,” Burstein said. “And the producers are telling me that the audiences are going nuts. I’m so, so incredibly happy for her. I just want her to succeed and shine. And I want the show to succeed and shine.”

Megan’s Broadway run has included both high points and challenges. After missing two performances due to a hospitalization on March 31, she returned to the stage on April 2, later describing the experience as “a real wake-up call.”

“I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough,” she wrote in an April 1 Instagram post. “It honestly scared me.”

“I just need one day to rest, reset, and take care of myself the way I should have,” she added. “I’ll be right back on that stage Thursday, stronger, clearer, and ready to give you 100% the way you deserve.”

She also made headlines in recent days after confirming her breakup from Dallas Mavericks player Klay Thompson, saying in a statement to PEOPLE that “trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable” and that she is choosing to “prioritize” herself moving forward.

Despite the early departure, Megan previously spoke about her excitement in taking on the role and exploring a new creative space.

“Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor,” she said in a statement when her run was announced. “I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace.”

Taylor Swift reveals how a car ride with fiancé Travis Kelce inspired her song “Elizabeth Taylor”

Inspiration can come in the most unlikely of places for Taylor Swift. The 36-year-old singer-songwriter is detailing the stories and process behind some of her biggest hits in a new profile for The New York Times Magazine

From hits like “Love Story” to “Clara Bow,” the Grammy winner and chart-topper gets candid about the moments that led to the tracks and the meaning behind some of her best lyrics.

There are so many different ways that a song begins in my world,” Swift says in the profile.

She then gives an insight into the song “Elizabeth Taylor” off her most recent studio album,The Life of a Showgirl.

I’m riding in the car with Travis,” she began, referencing her fiancé, Travis Kelce. “I go on and on in explaining to Travis, like, why I love Elizabeth Taylor so much. She fought for artists’ rights. She was exploited in so many ways, and yet she kept her humanity. She kept her humor. She kept her passion for life.’ I was just going on and on.”

The impassioned rant continued, and Swift recalled, “I was like, ‘Her eyes were violet. Some people said they were blue. Some people said they were violet. I think they were violet.’ We get home. He gets out of the car and I’m just in my head just this intrusive melody…. And I’m just scrambling to open my record app on my phone.”

The song, which features the lyrics, “I cried my eyes violet, Elizabeth Taylor,” is the second track on the pop star’s 12th studio album, which was released in October.

During her album promotion, Swift shared that she’d reached out to Taylor’s estate to get permission to release the song, which features multiple lyrical references to the actress. Swift called the estate “lovely” during an interview on the Scott Mills on Radio 2’s Breakfast Show.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Taylor’s son Christopher Wilding praised the song, saying he listened to it “the day it became available.”

She and my mom do seem like kindred spirits. They are both the very embodiment of female empowerment,” he shared. “The way [Swift] has deftly captured the similarities and parallel tracks in their careers and personal lives is delightful.”

Much of Swift’s latest album is believed to be about her romance with Kelce, whom she started dating in 2023. The couple announced their engagement last August.

We’re in love with the shape of… Ed Sheeran’s new hairline? The “Shivers” singer debuted a shocking shaved-head look via Instagram on Tuesday in a “Life Update Dumpington” post. “Yes I’ve shaved my hair. I wanted to shave it to signify a fresh start,” Sheeran, 35, explained in the caption. “A lot of new beginnings in my life [at the moment].”

He added that he personally “love[s]” the ‘do and is “thinking of keeping it this way.”

Elsewhere in the post, Sheeran — who is best known for his messy ginger locks, often kept cut to a medium-length style — revealed that he’s had a case of the shingles “for the last month.”

“Wouldn’t recommend it, but on the mend now,” he reassured his followers, many whom praised him for the buzzcut in the comments section.

The four-time Grammy winner has been on hiatus during his ongoing Loop Tour, which kicked off in January and runs through December with dates around the globe.

“Can’t wait to get back cracking on that,” he said of returning to the stage. “See you lovely people there.”

This certainly isn’t the first time Sheeran has surprised fans with a new look, however.

Back in December, the “Thinking Out Loud” singer showed off an impressive 30-pound weight loss transformation on the cover of Men’s Health UK.

Sheeran posed shirtless and showed off his ripped abs for the publication, sharing that he embarked on the fitness journey for his family.

The musician — who shares daughters Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3, with wife Cherry Seaborn — credited a “consistent” workout routine and cutting back on alcohol for his fitness glow up.

It all came in at the same time of wanting to be a responsible dad, wanting to feel and look good,” he explained.

At the time, Sheeran admitted he was “worried” about how his fans would react to his magazine cover.

“I’m the guy people relate to and I did think, ‘F–k, is it weird me being super in shape on a Men’s Health cover?’” he shared, adding that he decided to do it in the hopes of inspiring others to achieve their goals. Sheeran previously revealed that he lost 50 pounds and quit smoking in 2019.

Jennifer Lopez, 56, flaunts toned abs during intense gym session: “Rise and grind!”

Jennifer Lopez was up early on Sunday working out in the gym, and she shared a slideshow of snaps of her impressively sculpted abs as proof. The 56-year-old Bronx-born pop diva flexed her etched six-pack while clad in a plunging white-ribbed cropped sweater over a black sports bra, matching low-rise leggings and white sneakers.

Lopez – who boasts 392.6 million social media followers – captioned her Instagram posts with a bicep emoji and wrote: ‘Rise and grind!’

The four-time divorced mother-of-two’s longtime trainer Tracy Anderson commented: ‘Those abs!!!’

In 2023, Lopez presented the outstanding achievement in fitness trophy to the 51-year-old fitness guru at the 5th Annual Daytime Beauty Awards in Los Angeles, California.

‘Tracy Anderson stands out as the original creator whose methods and dedication to her craft keep her at the top of her game,’ the Save Me Tonight singer said in her speech.

‘There is no madness to the method – just 25 years of pure dedication to her clients and health.’

According to Town & Country – Anderson charges a $1,500 initiation fee plus annual dues for VIP access to her gyms where celebrity clientele includes Olivia Wilde, Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham.

Lopez – who’s also trained with Dodd Romero and David Kirsch – shared her fitness philosophy in a prior gym slideshow from February 10: ‘The goal is simple. Better than yesterday. Every. Single. Day.’

The two-time Grammy nominee executive produced and starred as Air Cruz CEO Jackie Cruz opposite her ‘best onscreen kisser’ Brett Goldstein in Ol Parker’s rom-com Office Romance, which premieres June 5 on Netflix.

The 45-year-old Englishman co-wrote the script with Ted Lasso co-creator Joe Kelly, and he portrays the sexy lawyer Daniel Blanchflower, who falls for Cruz despite her rigid anti-fraternization policy.

And if the characters wind up wedding, it will mark Lopez’s 10th time playing a bride in a movie.

Betty Gilpin, Edward James Olmos, Bradley Whitford, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale and Jackie Sandler will also be featured in Office Romance.

The Nuyorican co-founder needs a hit after the box office failures of Unstoppable only earning $3,966 in 2024 before streaming on Prime Video, and The Kiss of the Spider Woman only earning $2 million last year after a $30 million budget.

Lopez will also star in Robert Zemeckis’ thriller The Last Mrs. Parrish for Netflix and she’ll produce Bob the Builder for Amazon MGM Studios.
